We find ourselves in the second era of stupid, where a billionaire’s musings on media bias command more attention than meaningful journalism. Are we okay with this tripe from Rogan instead of embedded journalists and independently verified, professional reporting from around the world? If so, consider this: to see where Facebook is going, let’s not forget where Elon Musk has steered X. The platform’s actions speak volumes about its so-called commitment to “free speech absolutism.” Take India, for example. In January 2023, X complied with government demands to censor content critical of its leadership. Among the blocked posts were those discussing a BBC documentary investigating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial role in the 2002 Gujarat riots. In Turkey, the pattern repeated. Ahead of the May 2023 elections, X restricted access to accounts critical of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. And Saudi Arabia? You might not want to dig too deeply into that story if you want a good night’’sleep sleep.. Suffice it to say, the notion of “free speech” on X is looking increasingly hollow. If we are replacing critical insight with this turgid Rogan lap-dog routine we are all in trouble.

For every decent interview there are many more that are agenda driven, right wing propaganda. Rogan has become a lazy interviewer, allowing his guests to spout blatant lies unchallenged because they suit his personal views.

There are things that Joe does well. He is a great conversationalist, he digs into his guests lives in a really interesting way and he is also great when he challenges them on how they are thinking and why they might be wrong which means he has some great episodes. But now loads are just him using phrases that he clearly doesn’t understand, jumping into every conspiracy and then just wanging on about whatever passion he has. When he has some really interesting people to talk to. And then just talks about his mind being blown. I think he does deserve credit for talking to everyone but often he just draws people into his cynicism masquerading as skepticism that just leaves the guest feeling awkward and being like sure whatever you say big guy.

Like Joe, I’m a lifelong democrat who has creeped towards the middle in recent years. And I enjoy the diverse sets of guests and insights that Joe has on the show. It’s clear, as well, that Joe has knowledge and number of different areas, and that’s cool. He’s brought on some very influential guests, including folks, you might not expect, and those diverse perspectives have come to light in wide, ranging and often thoughtful conversation. I have felt that the left continued attack on Rogan and his credibility was no longer valid. #2256 with Gillis et al is a massive step backwards, including toward overall credibility. While I understand that this is a group of comedians, this particular episode is just rife with racism, misogyny, and homophobia. It presents me with this weird sort of cognitive dissonance in terms of how I feel about this show overall, with the disclaimer that I’ve been a big fan

It is pretty awkward when I listen to the podcast around my kids and when they mention LGBTQ my kids ask what it means and my answer always is you will learn when you grow up. And the podcast mentions LGBTQ and my kids ask often.

Joe Rogan is a pseudo comedian and a pseudo intellectual. I used to listen when he had funny people on, but I can’t even do that anymore. All he does is talk about politics and/or cancel culture. He interjects those topics into every conversation and it is so tired. Good for him for building an army of bros that worship him and swallow everything he spews out. But I’m hoping even they get tired of his repetitive act eventually.

If I’m listening to an episode with Zuckerberg, I don’t want to listen to long elaborate conversations about martial artists I’ve never heard of. I’m not into sports, so I feel very excluded, and I’m guessing it’s a repeating subject. I had to skip in total a third of the episode to actually hear about Zuckerberg, Meta, what Joe Rogan thinks about all of that etc. In total the content is of good quality, but if my finger is often on the skip button I cannot relax. I don’t understand why this is the most popular podcast ever.
