Amazing concept, has the potential to be good but as it stands, most of the episodes are hard to listen to as they tend to show off items, that if you have no idea what they’re talking about can be hard to follow along with and imagine. Also some of the topics discussed are too complicated and complex for a casual listen driving. I was expecting this to be a podcast around things the everyday person knows of and can relate too, not mathematical numbers and equations. Really enjoy Hannah and enjoy some of her other works so nothing against the presenters themselves. More so the actual structure of the pod.

I’ve hoovered up at least half of the episodes in about 4 days. I think people who like Radiolab or Ologies will love it. The subjects they cover are interesting and I find the tangents (Vsauce style) fascinating. Michael’s effervescent and Hannah’s more considered personality, and their respective breadth and depth of knowledge, make every conversation fun to listen in on.

lots of reviews are lowkey being xenophobic with the annoyance of michael’s americen accent. i mostly listen on youtube but was shocked seeing the amount of people hating. if hannah thinks hes suitable then deal with it. i think the episodes are thought provoking and very entertaining. if you’re only leaving a bad review because you think american people are annoying keep it to yourself. these are real people.

It’s not engaging at all & lacks focus. Hannah is usually a good listen but the American guy is so irritating and off putting. Listen to Curious Cases on BBC Sounds for a much better alternative or better still the science content of In Our Time (also on BBC Sounds)

Amazing podcast with two highly intelligent people, it was so interesting that I couldn’t fall asleep without finishing it! I would recommend to all the nerds out there, like me, who like two polar opposites, a British female and an American male, working together to produce science facts for all the public in harmony! Don’t bother looking through all the hate comments/reviews (like I did) because they’re narcissistic and just plain dumb, if you have nothing nice to say, then just don’t bother even mentioning it. Either way, Hannah and Michael are two wonderful people and I hope they collaborate on more projects/podcasts in the future!

Such a shame that what promised to be my favourite of the “The Rest Is…” podcasts has, for me, fallen flat. At the moment, the podcast seems to be struggling to work out what it actually is, as well as who it is aimed at. Topics are either dealt with at such a superficial level that anyone with a science background is likely to switch off, yet at the same time it often moves into areas with too little explanation for listeners without prior knowledge. The result is a very odd mix, with no real middle ground. What I find most bizarre is that there is very little actual science. A recent episode on the trolley problem, for example, sits firmly within the realm of moral philosophy. While there are empirical studies in the social sciences that touch on related questions, the topic isn’t really one that I’d expect in a podcast supposedly about science. Similarly, the episode exploring whether ice should be classified as a mineral, and whether water could therefore be described as lava, is an interesting angle. However, ending the discussion with the statement that “water is lava” is not accurate in any meaningful scientific sense, even if one can follow the logic used to arrive at that conclusion. That is not science, but philosophy. On the plus side, Prof Hannah Fry is a legend as always.

These two know how to have some fun while going back back-and-forth on very interesting scientific facts and insights. Michael is just hilarious and Hannah keeps him in check while delivering astute counter points and insights. While I was expecting this to be a more basic science podcast, there are deeper insights and understandings that help me put together the bigger picture. Additionally, this podcast is unconventional and that it’s more of a dialogue and less of a structured format, which I greatly enjoy. Keep up the excellent quality episodes!

I have just heard the male presenter on this podcast describe an experiment on human subjects known as the trolley experiment. The subjects were recruited for some other experiment and then exposed without warning to the trolley experiment. The male presenter said that they had a psychologist to talk with the subjects afterwards and try to assuage their concerns that people had been killed in this experiment. There seemed to be nothing this experimental psychologist would not do to harm people. The experiments he described would surely not pass an IRB review. What about the long-term PTSD effects on these subjects. This person has no moral or ethical standards. I have immediately unsubscribed from this podcast.

One of the best podcasts I’ve consumed in recent years. Episodes keep me engaged and always leave me feeling a little more knowledgeable than I was before. Could not have picked a better pairing for hosting the podcast either, both Hannah and Michael just have this was of describing concepts in such a way that helps you wrap your head around it at a base level. I know I’m not going to be the next best mathematician or scientist but I can still enjoy the podcasts as they are. Big plus in the fact that both of them take time describing for those listening what they’re looking at if they bring along an item. Too many podcasts forget you’re only listening if they also record it but these guys consistently remember that’s not the case and keep everyone involved. Love it and definitely recommended to anyone.

Great informative show, love everything Hannah does but oh the constant adverts, even worse the SAME ones repeated over and over. When adverts are this intrusive, I will go out of my way to actively avoid the products / services advertised.

The conversation & questions these two have remind me when I use to smoke 🍃 back in college with my friends, and we’ll talk about all the crazy natural and scientific things that make life stranger than fiction in an amusing way. The only difference being that Hannah Fry and Michael Stevens are much credible, charming, and insightful than we ever were. I’ve recommended this podcast to people who don’t even know what a cell is and they love it.
