Join mathematician Professor Hannah Fry and science creator Michael Stevens (Vsauce) as they dig into the weird scientific questions that often go unexplored.
Welcome to The Rest Is Science, a show that sits in the fascinating space between what we think we know, and what we actually know. Why do we assume we understand things like time, randomness, or even gravity? Once you start questioning these familiar ideas, reality becomes astonishingly strange and completely fragile.
Whether you're a lifelong science fan or just naturally curious, The Rest Is Science will change your perception of reality, and prove that the biggest questions are always the most fun.
I love the moments in this podcast that make me stop and say βwowβ out loud ;) Been listening since the start, just finished the βCollective Knowledgeβ field notes episode.

Very good podcast spoilt by being US focussed and use of non metric units. βScienceβ is in the title. So why use PSI and feet?

Two of my favorites, exploring some really interesting topics, and keeping me 100% engaged with a big smile on my face. Stop what youβre doing & listen to an episode right now now. I guarantee youβll love it! (not an actual guarantee)

Some good bits but both presenters tend to ramble. And what is a βscience creatorβ? You donβt create scienceβ¦

Both hosts are super likable and convey a great passion for science and curiosities. The topics arenβt really deep but I actually think they dip in just deep enough to awaken the curiosity in myself which I can then satisfy by looking into the topics they discussed in more detail. Itβs a nice mix of different disciplines of sciences with a lot of fun facts.

Both hosts are so enthusiastic and smart - I find this really relaxing in a chaotic world

Boring and they try too hard to be funny

I love the show but you usually lose me about 10 minutes in to every episode. The second part of the Infinity episodes really did my head in!

Absolutely loved it even if to be honest I didn't understand a word but they breath so much love and humour into the subjects they play with you just cannot stop listening.

As the proud holder of 1 science o level I was initially wary about this project. Happily the content is so compelling and the hosts so enthusiastic that it is a delight and I am enjoying science now, thanks, Chris Ridley

Took awhile for the chemistry to grow but later episodes really hitting their stride. Thought provoking but approachable.

Just finished listening to the cognitive ghosts episode and love the chat between these two - it feels very informal & thoughtful with a good dose of humour to keep it light. Wide range range of fascinating topics - keep up the good work!

Every episode is funny and interesting, the chemistry between Michael and Hannah makes every episode really entertaining. I love the fun way this is to learn something without being lectured π

Great podcast. However when listening to this at night my volume level has to be about 2% as the podcast is very loud, then Hannahβs voice is often vastly louder than Michaelβs. Please do some fine tuning on sound levels for us that listen at night or sleep to. Thanks

Re: the vegetable discussion. Hereβs another thing. My dietitian told me that in my eating plan potato only counts as a vegetable once a day, after which it counts as a carb. Turns out vegetables are not always vegetables. They are situation-dependant entities. Thanks for all the lovely science.

Good: you know these two. Effective and charismatic science communicators with many years of experience each. Bad: ads. Not only are there a lot of them, but they play sponsor-provided ads rather than reading copy. You know, the very reason people switched to podcasts from radio. Itβs grating. Corporate ads are just disgusting and derail the whole show. I can only listen when I have my phone nearby so I can skip the atrocious ads.

I understand that Hannah Fryβs full time job is now content creation but a mathematician and a YouTuber just didnβt work for this podcast. Rutherford & Fry worked better because it was less sensationalist. Not really worth the listen.
