For hundreds of years, the Jewish people watched and waited for the promised king who would deliver them from exile, bringing rescue and restoration. Then an angel brings the long-awaited pronouncement: “She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” The king has finally come! The gospel of Matthew builds a bridge between the prophecies of Isaiah and their fulfillment in Jesus, the promised Messiah King. And it shows us that sometimes the king and kingdom we think we want aren’t the King and Kingdom God knows we really need. Flourish is a Bible study for women and a ministry of New City Church. Studies are developed and taught by leaders at New City Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of New City Academy. New City Academy is designed to equip disciple makers through training in biblical truth, character development, and practical ministry skills to help people find and follow Jesus.
